Nizoral shampoo - why do I need prescription?
Hey there are 2 Nizoral shampoo's - both are 2% but one of them requires prescription. Why? What's the difference? why whould you need a prescription for a shampoo?

"Nizoral" is a brand name of "Ketoconazole" - a pregnancy category "C" drug. This means that it can increase the risk of Teratogenesis (birth defects). It is because of this category that the shampoo requires a prescription ( so a pregnant woman can't buy it without knowing the risks. A doctor wouldn't prescribe it to a pregnant woman ).
Also; are you sure that BOTH shampoos are 2%, because I think there are two types of Nizoral; one is 2% - the other being only 1%. Even so, the 1% can't be bought without a pharmacist's approval (over-the-counter).
